Mato Ralo

César Barboza 2022 Brasil Portugués, subtítulos en inglés 46 minutes Distribution: Rosana Pimenta, Bendita Agua (rosana@benditaagua.com.br)

With the arrival of the COVID-19 pandemic, the country deepened its social chasms with a drastic increase in homelessness and the threat of hunger for thousands of Brazilians. In the largest economic center of the country, São Paulo, a worse scenario erupted. In this context, the collective ‘Evil Capoeira’ took their traditional and ritualistic stew, known as ‘Galinhada,’ to the city’s streets, and in an unprecedented format, fed both bodies and hearts. The film brings to the surface the history of Capoeira, told by some of its mentors, and discusses the situation of Black communities in Brazil.
