MEMORIA - INTERNAL CONFLICT | Peru; Cayara, Ayacucho

On the night of May 13, 1988, a Shining Path column ambushed a Peruvian army convoy in the Cayara district of Ayacucho. In response to the attack, military patrols tortured, executed and disappeared around thirty people in Cayara in the following days. Now, every May 13, the people of Cayara commemorate the tragic events in an intimate vigil where they strengthen their community ties.
