Santiago, a crab fisherman boy, finds a gold coin while fishing. His grandfather had told him about the Spanish galleons sunk in the Caribbean Sea. The boy faces the disbelief of his mother, who accuses him of being a thief when she sees him arrive with new shoes and groceries, as well as the anger of Oscar, his fishing partner, who demands the profits from the sale of the coin.
