La Tierra Maya: Milpa, Meliponas y la Defensa de la Vida

Kata Beilin, Avi Weinstein 2022 Mexico Castellano 68 minutes Distribution: Kata Beilin (kobeilin@wisc.edu)

An account on the fight of Mayan Beekeepers for the health of the Mayan territory in the Yucatan Peninsula, in Mexico. The film explores the pre-colonial and current relationship between the Mayas and their environment, particularly the milpa agricultural system, and its main crop, corn, sacred sinkholes (called cenotes), and sacred stingless bees, the Melipona. Likewise, it proposes that the health of bees be considered a measure for sustainable development.
